The Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP (Commission) is closely monitoring the case of the 11-year-old boy who was tasered by an RCMP member in Prince George, British Columbia, on April 7, 2011.

The Commission has requested further information surrounding the handling of this incident. Although an independent police force has been called in to investigate the case, the age of the individual involved merits special attention. The Commission has previously expressed caution on the use of tasers against at-risk populations.

The Commission will await the results of the West Vancouver Police Department investigation and then decide what follow-up action is required on its part.
