Ian McPhail, the Chairperson of the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission for the RCMP (CRCC) has initiated a complaint and a public interest investigation into the conduct of RCMP members in Coquitlam, British Columbia regarding an incident captured on video where members used force against two elderly persons.

"In light of the circumstances depicted on the video and of the concern I’ve heard from several members of the public who have contacted my office, I am satisfied that it is in the public interest that an independent investigation be launched into this matter." said Mr. McPhail.

The CRCC’s independent investigation will examine the conduct of the members involved in the incident and whether the response to the situation followed RCMP policy, practice and training. The CRCC will make findings and recommendations to address any deficiencies in member conduct as well as RCMP policies, procedures, training and guidelines.

The CRCC is distinct and independent from the RCMP and has jurisdiction over complaints regarding all members of the RCMP.
